Infiorata

In honor of their patron saint, St. Luigi Gonzaga, the contradaioli of Terziere Casalino create an original infiorata each year. This event, one of the most important that the city offers its visitors, traditionally marks the beginning of the Pievese summer festivities. The infiorata also features music and entertainment; indeed, both on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, visitors are accompanied along the route by musical harmonies.

Quadri Viventi

In the evocative setting of the underground chambers of Palazzo Orca, on Easter Sunday and Monday, Terziere Borgo presents Living Pictures. The themes of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection are expressed through Living Pictures performed by approximately 40 actors, featuring scenes centered on The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane, Ecce Homo, The Scourging, The Pietà over the Dead Christ, and The Resurrection. The scenes, made particularly engaging by their meticulous reconstruction in accordance with Sacred History, draw inspiration from examples of the Italian pictorial tradition, especially that of the 16th and 17th centuries. Thus, it serves as a tribute to the city’s rich artistic heritage, which boasts the birthplaces of Pietro Perugino and Antonio Circignani, known as Il Pomarancio.

Palio dei Terzieri

The historical Pallium, contested annually by the Terzieri, is a splendid painted tapestry created by the Pievese master Antonio Marroni. It depicts archers paying homage to the Field Master (the competition’s judge) before the signal to start the contest. Set against a blue background are the city’s most significant monuments, and at the bottom are the symbols of the Terzieri: the medieval Castle, the Pozzo del Casalino, and the Rocca del Borgo Dentro. At the top is the coat of arms of Città della Pieve featuring the two Visconti “biscioni” in homage to the alliance with the Republic of Milan. The frame is adorned with decorations of trophies and 16th-century armor.

Zafferiamo

Three days dedicated to celebrating a spice appreciated since antiquity, when scholars and philosophers recommended its use in cooking and pharmacy. Once important for dyeing fabrics, today the stigmas of saffron are valued for the meticulous processing they require and their versatility in the kitchen. The Umbrian town celebrates it with workshops, themed dinners and aperitifs, cooking classes, walks through the fields, and a special tiramisu.

Presepe Monumentale

Terziere Castello sets up the Monumental Nativity Scene in the underground chambers of Palazzo della Corgna, a work that spans multiple rooms and includes a figurative pathway through the underground corridors, covering a total of eight rooms and over 500 square meters. Each room is meticulously arranged by the Terziere’s volunteers, who work for months to create it by combining tradition, craftsmanship, and construction skills, thus creating a journey for visitors as they traverse different historical settings with visual and sound effects. There are now over a hundred large-scale statues used in the setup. Made of papier-mâché, terracotta, resin, and enriched with splendid details, they have been specially created by Italian master craftsmen.
